Double christening and open ship in Thyborøn.
Fisherman and skipper Henning Kjeldsen and family were able to enjoy the good Danish summer weather at the port of Thyborøn on Friday, welcoming the two newbuilds in the shipping company’s Gitte Hennings’s portfolio of fishing vessels. They could hold the christening and subsequent open ship for the weekend.
Hundreds of interested parties chose to spend the afternoon with Denmark’s largest shipping company to date, where newbuilds S 149 Birthe and L 349 Birgitte were christened and celebrated in Thyborøn with champagne, flags and congratulations to the ships and their crews.
Henning Kjeldsen himself was present when the crews and skippers of Birthe and Birgitte respectively arrived on board. The ship names are the names of his wife and daughter respectively, and they also oversaw the christening of each vessel.
When asked by FiskerForum.dk what Henning Kjeldsen wants to express about the new vessels, flexibility was the keyword, together with the crew’s commitment; crucial to the success of fishing. A flexible vessel is one that can be switched from human consumption to industrial fishing with rapid conversion to another species. With new regulations, rules and laws in the fisheries area, you must first and foremost be readily available, says Henning Kjeldsen emphasizing his explorations and assessments and on his time with the newly built Gitte Henning.
At the same time, the Jutland skipper sent a big thank you to the shipyard Kynde & Toft as well as the many subcontractors, who have all been deeply involved in the construction and completion of Birthe and Birgitte. “It has been a pleasure to be part of the process, where everything is always managed on an ongoing basis and with a very satisfactory result,” points out Henning Kjeldsen, and further emphasized that skilled professionals, with experience and expertise, have acknowledged Danish shipbuilding traditions. More new builds will help make the industry even more robust, which is good for employment and the economy of the shipyards as well as for society as a whole.
New vessels with the best technology
The ships Birthe and Birgitte are bursting with the latest technology and also well equipped. State-of-the-art facilities are provided with all the comforts for the crew on board, whose welfare has always been on the Jutland skipper’s mind. The success of a ship depends on a committed crew that are invested in the co-ownership of the fishery, that has the right vessel for the task.
FiskerForum.dk wishes skipper and crew as well as vessels good wind in the future.
