Fishery Research Ship built in 1955 by Alexander Hall & Company Ltd, Aberdeen.

Explorer is a National Register of Historic Vessels designated ship, the last steam sidewinder trawler type in the World although she was built solely for the purpose of scientific research!

Currently laid up in a back area of Leith docks, where she has been since 1996, slowly being renovated by a small group of dedicated enthusiast members of the SS Explorer Preservation Society.

Visits have to be arranged and current information shows these can be arranged on Tuesdays' and Saturdays 10:00-15:00 hrs. Perhaps a group visit could be arranged if other web site members are interested.

I haven't yet managed to get up closer to enable me to take a better photograph but it is definitely on my to do list!
