GY36 My Gratitude

Have just come across this forum and thought I would add to the "Gratitude" discussion. My father James Edward Newby owned the keel boat GY36 "My Gratitude" from new. I think that when sold in the 1970s it went to the south west but not too sure. Anyway I've added a photo which shows the boat entering Grimsby dock (1962) with my Dad in the wheelhouse and the crew Robert Newby (my cousin) and ?? Jewitt on deck.

the old lead us that fished from gy early 70s was reg WY 36 simlar in appearance.did the sparkling line become gy 36

No it didn't. My Dad owned gy36 from new, I have just handed the blue prints to a Local History Society for safekeeping.

sparkling line was reg. gy 364. i worked on both lead us and my gratitude, similar length boats but thats about it, my gratitude had the old fashioned rudder that that came up level with the top rail. we christened the lead us U36 because she used to go under the waves rather than over them.

Lead us was the first boat I worked on when I left school, started Christmas 1959, she had the 88 in her then and was addicted to easy start.
When she belonged to Will and Raymond Storr she used to used to put some awful wild days in, seen her passing Whitby, making for Scarborough in Northerly gales, when it was too bad to make home

always thought sparkling line built at macduff for john handcock was reg gy 36 he owned/skippered lead us at one time think he sold sparkling line to the orkneys where she took a kirkwall reg then sold again and took the reg gy 364.dwina the boat im refering to was built in the late 80s think your dads boat gy36 was built in 50s stand correcting my comment above was in refferance to the simlar reg numbers of two vessels that sailed from grimsby @ a simlar time ie gy36 & wy 36

I'm sure I was crewing on the My Gratitude when she was sold from Bridlington to Newhaven in about 1970. Stopped off at Yarmouth and Lowestoft on way down. Purchased by Dudley Tucker from Brixham and worked for short time from Newhaven. Not 100 per cent sure it was same boat but looks like it?

i think i can add a bit more to the story of the gratitude in newhaven,she did indeed turn up around 1970,had a gardner 6lx by then,she spent about ten years here,was the first boat i skippered,i think she ended up being sold as a houseboat to somewhere in scotland.i remember being told she was built as one of four identical boats ,we had two of the others sisters in newhaven as well,the osprey,and the seafarer
